Your data, backup and deletion

Everything stays in one folder on your Mac. What you can delete, what is append-only by design, and backup, encryption at rest and uninstalling, which are not implemented.

Part of the path works and is named; the rest does not exist yet, and the page says which part.

  • AVAILABLELocal storageEverything is local, in one folder of your Mac’s Application Support.
  • AVAILABLEDeleting a conversation or a memoryFrom the app; a deleted conversation’s mission is set aside, not destroyed.
  • PLANNEDBackup and full exportNot implemented: only exporting a workbook exists today.
  • PLANNEDEncryption at restNot implemented: the databases are unencrypted SQLite. Only keys are protected, by the Keychain.
  • PLANNEDUninstallingNot implemented: there is no command, and removing the app leaves its data.

#Where the data is

Everything is local, in ~/Library/Application Support/app.deskworth.os.

FileWhat it holds
The journal, journal.sqliteThe theses you adopted, with their provenance, append-only: updates and deletions are refused.
The chronicle, chronique.sqliteWhat happened, a card opened, a tool called, append-only.
Kam’s memory, memoire.sqliteWhat Kam keeps of the way you work.
Conversations, conversations.sqliteThe conversations and their transcripts.
AI Factory, factory.sqliteThe AI Factory sheets.
The corpus, rag.sqliteThe imported corpus.

Folders sit beside them: each mission’s deliverables and the previous ones, each card’s workspace, and the settings file that holds your limits.

#Deleting

  • Forgetting one of Kam’s memories: Settings › Kam’s memory. It is final.
  • Deleting a conversation, from the list: the conversation is erased, and its mission is set aside in a separate folder, not destroyed.
  • Destroying a set-aside mission: the command exists in the core, and no screen calls it, not available to you.
  • The journal and the chronicle are not erased: that is their design.

#Not implemented

  • Backup and full export: none. Only exporting a workbook exists. The journal is backed up by copying it.
  • Encryption at rest: none. The databases are unencrypted SQLite; only keys are protected, by the Keychain.
  • Uninstalling: no command. Removing the app leaves the data folder, the Keychain entries, the caches, the WebKit data, the preferences, and the command-line link that the Terminal installer placed.
